We spend our entire lives making value judgments about ourselves and other women based on our physical appearance. Even astoundingly focused and passionate-about-real -issues women obsess endlessly about their thighs, their stomach rolls, the perkiness of their boobs and the size of their butts. This is exhausting, deflects us from more useful musings and makes us all feel inadequate and grumpy. We also tend to slot ourselves onto a weird ladder of relative attractiveness by comparing our bits (positively or negatively) with the rest of the sisterhood. I hate this because it turns all our interactions into a weird misguided competition rather than a wonderful collaborative PARTY! I am tired of this. I am tired of doing it myself and I am tired of other women doing it and I don’t want my daughter to ever even GO THERE! So lets just STOP IT! Lets focus on our STRENGTH and our SURVIVAL (despite illness and injury) and our ability to CREATE LIFE inside our sometimes wobbly bellies and the fact that we can master our environment and that we are MACHINES not ORNAMENTS! Lets celebrate all that amazing miraculous stuff (and MCC and cupcakes!) and take a break from the pointless pursuit of perfection and the endless comparisons and the “I HATE MY MUFFIN TOP” crap!” I’m sure that if we just make peace with our imperfections we will RULE the WORLD in no time at all 🙂 Just saying.
